Remembering

So, I don't really have a lot of vetrans in my family, and I don't know any people really who have died in service to our country, but I love memorial day. I think it very moving to watch people come together and celebrate other people. We went to the parade, all be it the "wrong" parade due to over sleeping. I watched my kids and my sister's hollding flags and just happy to be there. They have no clue what goes on, or why we were at a parade. What's the reason for celebration, but they were happy. Granted they got a bag full of candy and a flag each, but it was sad watching these children for some reason. Do we forget the reason to remember with all the hoopla? Did I? I watched as "my" band marched by and tears came to my eyes remembering thet time in my life. Knowing it will never be again and I can't fully explain to anyone the impact it had on me, the friends I made or the memories I have. For now, my kids are my reason. I'm making memor...

Nothing like it

It's thursday and that means it's nap day. Noah is sooo tired after our very busy morning that he USUALLY sleeps for 2 solid hours. So Grace and I sit on my bed, me in my spot, she in Daddy's and watch spongebob. Drawing hearts on our hands and wiping them off so I can do it again. A flower this time, "I'm gonna keep this forever" no you're not, you're wiping it off as we speak. We play quiet games and wait for Noah to wake up. She can't wait to go downstairs, but I could stay here forever. I love this little girl, my little girl.
I watched last week as my elderly neighbor was taken away in an ambulance. I didn't enjoy the thoughts that crept into my mind the rest of the day and into that night. I watched a movie called "P.S. I Love You" where a young wife loses her husband to a brain tumor. The next day my coworker told me that her father was taken in to hospital after he fainted at work. It turns out the lower 1/2 of his heart was dead and the upper half was only pumping 20% of the blood it was supposed to. This isn't intended to be "sappy" but it does hit me with an all too important thought...how short this life is and where we are going when it's done. I feel blessed to know that this isn't it. All the ambulances and sad movies and talk of death can't scare me...or it shouldn't. Are you scared af death? yours? his? hers? mom and dad? I watched today as Leo, my neighbor, with his daughter-in-law holding the majority of his weight, walked back into hi...

What to do, what to do...

So someone asked me the other day where I was going to send Grace for 1st grade. I was like, whoa, she's 3... but then I started thinking, well, she's almost 4 and once she's in 4 year preschool it all starts to get busy and then before you know it she's in 1st grade. We have "many" options for schools. Our church only has preschool -kindergarten so that's all set. 1st grade could be at any number of parochial schools in town (there are probably more than 30 in a 30 mile radius) and that's just lutheran schools. from what I hear there are some pretty good public schools as well, and I think we might be in a good school district. But, what do you do when your husband works for an LCMS church and they give you help with tuition at an other LCMS school in the area but it's still cheaper to send them to a public school and you're pinching penny's...always... all this just brings me back to the original thought whoa, she's 3! I figure it out...

3 year drama

Here is my three-year-old... This is a normal face. I take lots of pictures of happy faced children running and playing having a blast, but The faces not being photographed more often look like these. I could feel bad about this, and I could give up on making her happy, but I won't I used to hate when, during a tantrum, people would say, "it's a girl thing" I wanted to pull these people's mouths up over their heads and scream, "IT'S A THREE-YEAR-OLD THING" I have come to understand that yes, it may in fact be a little bit of a girl thing but that my little boy has "boy things" as well that I'm sure will only get worse with age. Saying all this just leads me to my main point... I don't often wonder where she gets it from.
